SLEEPING ON PURPOSE
SUBHEAD: "Discover the Honest Story Behind My Transformation from Overwhelmed New Mom to Sleep Consultant, and How It Transformed My Family's Life"
Ezra turned 3 last week. To be honest, the last years have gone so fast yet so slow all at the same time. I think if you are a parent, you will know what I mean. The days are slow, but the weeks/months/years are fast. You can read my tribute to Ezra in this post.
This precious boy is the whole reason why I am doing sleep consulting, and why I am so passionate about sleep for the whole family.
So why did you decide to become a sleep consultant? I get this question a lot. Truth be told, I never intended on becoming one. I already had a successful career and was doing well, there was no reason for me to choose another path.
This is my honest story.
If you follow me on Instagram, you will have had a glimpse or read snippets of my story. The truth is my early days of motherhood were painful. I think it was a combination of my personality type, the lack of social support, the lack of education, and unrealistic expectations that STOLE the joy of motherhood.
I remember the days when Ezra would not nap at all on his own during the day (20 minutes if I’m lucky), and I was so incredibly stressed as we were packing up to move to Alice Springs for 6 months (my husband was posted up there for work as a doctor).
So with him sleeping in my arms, and another hand on the laptop or phone doing “research”, that’s a picture of how I would spend my newborn days. Somehow, I managed to implement some tips and strategies along the way (and made a lot of mistakes too poor boy!), and Ezra began to sleep better (yay!).
But, things were changing so rapidly with the baby's sleep and development, that I just couldn’t keep up! I became very tired and frustrated from my endless Google search (all parents say amen!). In the background, I was also battling my own demon of post-post-fatal anxiety and Depression (I’ll share my story soon).
So I decided to go straight to the source (well, sort of) and enrolled myself in a course to become a sleep consultant course. Clearly, I was not thinking straight! (I’m still catching up on sleep). This new hobby was quite $$$$ and very labor-intensive and time-consuming.
But, with a baby who is napping and sleeping well, a husband who is busy at work with a demanding job, no friends, no family, and isolated in a small town, I occupied and filled my time with learning.
And then something beautiful happened. Ezra started to really thrive. My husband and I as parents were well rested and had more time to prioritise our marriage. Our family started to heal and slowly began to thrive.
This is what life is all about. Everyone deserves to thrive in every season of life. If you are not satisfied with where you are currently, you don't have to keep living this way. There is always a better way.
And now, many years on, because of you Ezra, I get to help many families sleep well, help parents do sleep parenting guilt-free, one that aligns with their parenting beliefs, and one that is filled with joy and true enjoyment.
